The wisdom of a heart spoke (2/14/88)

The wisdom of a heart spoke
as tender love
glided
down a face of mine;
No world
could have been
without this winding river
of time.
And of whom
was this great compassion
given;
Would the fingertips
of your own
reach
in the gentleness
of a memory
and touch
a life
with love;
Smile
in a gestured kindness
and mean it?
And the dust
of a woumbs love
has left
the birthmark of time
begun.
Whose smile sanctioned
"two hearts" beat?
How could this be forever?
As hands held
as tears fell
still
I
am the same.
